Keeping Organized

Much of my adult life, I have kept track of coming deadlines and happenings with a combination of dry erase boards, sticky notes, and my phone calendar. Those were simpler times, when I maybe had one thing in a week to keep track of. Once I started actually, you know, doing stuff with my life, it became clear that I needed a new method to stay on top of all the things I needed to do and places I needed to be. I realized I did much better when I could see everything written out, so I decided on getting a good ole fashioned planner.

On the recommendation of my lovely friend Tina, I ordered one from Erin Condren. When I first looked them up, I kind of laughed. It's just a planner, why on earth would I drop that kind of cash on a planner?! I did a bunch of research, and found nothing but glowing reviews about the customization, ease of use, and most importantly how people who had never been "planner people" had found themselves compelled to keep using it. Maybe it's because if you spend more than $5 on it you feel like you have to use it, who knows. Regardless, with that level of positive reinforcement behind the idea I decided it was worth giving a shot.

Man am I glad I did. I love this thing.

When you order it, it's customizable from cover to cover. The covers themselves are interchangeable, which made me nervous at first because that tends to be code for "will probably become loose and fall off in a few weeks", but 8 months later it's still going strong for me. You can choose from a large variety of covers, many of them with custom color schemes available, and an option to put your name or a monogram (or nothing at all). You can also choose the color of the coil that binds everything together! On the inside you can choose between two color schemes, as well as what layout format you want for your days (horizontal, vertical, and vertical hourly). The paper is high quality, and I haven't had any issues of bleed-through with my pens. It's a bit large, but that means I don't have to write super tiny and it does still fit in my purse.

The one drawback is that this is not a refillable planner like more traditional ones are, meaning you have to buy a new one every year. Personally this doesn't bother me, as I've stared to use the planner as a bit of a log of my adventures for the year and would want to keep it intact anyways, but I know that will be a strike for some people.

The planner also comes with an option to get one for next year, with the remainder of this year's months included in it. I love that they offer that for anyone who's looking to get organized now rather than waiting a few months (or worse, is forced to buy a planner with a bunch of useless months in it). You still get all of the same customization options, and it doesn't really add any thickness to it thanks to the size the coil already is.

Interested in your own? If you sign up for an account using this link and it'll get you $10 off your order! They do sales all the time, and also offer notebooks, lesson planners for teachers, wedding planner, and all kinds of other stuff.

Short version: score one for organization!

Let's Go Shopping!

And the best part is you don't even have to go very far! I've launched a store right here on the website! At the moment pickings are slim, but some cool stuff is coming soon my friends.

If you want to snag yourself a Skyward Sword cosplay print or a logo pin, head on over to the store and make your selections! Those not tickling your fancy? Have no fear! In the very near future some Sailor Jupiter photos will be making their way over there, as well as some new Zelda shots. Looking for more wearable items? There are a few shirts that will be popping up there soon, as soon as I get the sample prints and give them the thumbs up. I'm really, really excited for one of them. I bet Adam is too *wink wink hint*

Just like tips/donations on stream, all sales go towards equipment and supplies (minus the actual cost of the thing I'm sending you, of course) and are hugely appreciated, as they allow me to keep doing my thang.

<3 you!

Special Stream Guest - Color Thief Dev

I'm excited to announce a very special stream is coming up next week! Color Thief is a 3rd person puzzle game where you play the part of a chameleon that can steal color from objects and transfer them to others. I first saw the game at PAX South and loved the idea of it from the start. It's rare to find new puzzle games that don't simply rely on being impossible, and instead choose to employ a unique new mechanic that functions well and serves a purpose beyond a gimmick.

The two person team was kind enough to send me a copy of the current demo version of the game, which takes you through the first half of the first temple and introduces you to all of the mechanics of the game. I will be playing this on stream on July 27 at 7pm Eastern, and as an added bonus one of the developers will be joining me via Skype! We'll explore the mechanics of the game, talk about its origin, and hear about the development process for something so ambitious with a small team. I hope you'll join me so you can not only see this amazing game, but also have the chance to ask the dev some questions of your own!

Already know some questions you'd like to ask? Leave a comment here and I'll add it to my list!

LP Community Video - Plot Twist

7/19/2016

There's a series on the Let's Play Community channel called Plot Twist. It's hosted by Dan Jennings and James McGregor, and the premise is simple: someone who knows nothing about a game is asked a set of four questions about the plot by someone who is an expert in said game. The questionee has thirty seconds to come up with each answer, while the questioner can only confirm the accuracy (or lack thereof) of whatever they came up with. At the end of it all, the questionee has to summarize the entire plot of the game based on the questions they were asked and the answers they came up with. As you can imagine, hilarity tends to ensue.

Dan and James asked me if I wanted to be a guest on the show, and gave me a list of the games they were looking at having covered. Considering I was already in the middle of my love affair with Danganronpa, when I saw that on the list I was all over the opportunity to see what these guys would come up with for it. If you watched the streams, you know how insane the plot of this game was. Now imagine trying to boil it down to just four questions. And after you've imagined that and realized it's a trainwreck waiting to happen, watch the video below to see the result.

My Little Corner

*taps mic*
*awkwardly clears throat*

Hey there everyone! Welcome to my new little corner of the internet! Up until now I've holed up in parts of other sites, making a presence there but recognizing it's pretty much just rented space. With my community growing the way it has, the increase in projects, and status as a contract worker, I figured it was high time to have my own place. That's right, I'm moving out of my parents' basement!

*That was a metaphor. I haven't lived with my parents in many, many years.

I will still be present everywhere you've come to know and love (they're even all conveniently linked in the sidebar!), but this site will be able to serve as a central hub for it all. You'll be able to see more of what I'm up to, easily revisit really important things, and never have to worry about forgetting how to get to one of my other profiles ever again. As an added bonus, I will have a store here where you can snag your very own LoZelda Community merch and cosplay prints!

Please explore, and let me know if there's something else you want to see included here! Of course, as I complete more projects, the appropriate sections of the site will be updated, so be sure to check back often (Sailor Jupiter will be added very soon). I've been working on this for a while, so I'm excited to finally be able to share it with you all!

<3 Jenn
