Let's be honest, Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc was weird. Really weird. But also awesome. Like I'm totally in love with it awesome. It was Hunger Games meets Phoenix Wright on steroids. It was an actual mystery, where more often than not I really didn't know where a particular trial was going to go. The trials created tension and a real sense of urgency in how you played each phase (though I do wish there was more weight in failure somehow). I greatly enjoyed playing it, and I loved being able to share the experience with my stream chat.
So of course we have to play the sequel!
We started Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair this last week, completing the prologue and Chapter 1. It's just as "what the heck" as the last one, that's for sure. Some of the mechanics have changed, but the basic formula is still there. We'll be playing a chapter of this every Thursday (except for Sept 1) until we finish it, with the development phase of the chapter (referred to as "Daily Life" in the game) taking place in the afternoon and the investigation/trial phase ("Deadly Life") happening in the evening. We already have a lot of questions about what is going on, and I cannot wait until we get to the part of the game where everything starts falling into place and making sense.
For anyone who misses a stream, I'm going to try to turn them around quickly on YouTube. If you missed the original Danganronpa, you can find a complete playlist of my playthrough on YouTube. I highly recommend you watch it if you're going to watch Danganronpa 2, as there are several key points that carry over!
See you in the courtroom!
