Welcome to the WIP page for my Twilight Princess Zelda cosplay! This is going to be a long project due to all of the detail work required. This page will update with current progress when milestones of its completion are met. Much of the process will be streamed, however due to a variety of factors the streams will not be able to be archived on YouTube.
I am using Simplicity 8113 as my base for the dress. This pattern is a good start but isn't quite the right shape, so I made the dress out of muslin first following the pattern exactly. I fitted the muslin dress to myself, marking the necessary alterations to the shape, fit, and length to get the intended look with pins. All of the initial seams either fit as is or needed to be taken in (nothing needed to be let out or loosened), which made this part of the process much easier. Shape changes were marked with a purple marker, and new seams were done with red thread. After confirming the alterations gave the right fit, I traced all the seams with red marker before dismantling the dress. The separated muslin pieces were trimmed to give a half inch allowance around the new seams I drew on, and they will serve as the pattern pieces going forward.
The dress itself will be constructed from a white matte satin, while the overcoat(?) piece is a dark purple cotton. There is a wide variety in the shade of colors of this version of Zelda across reference pictures, so choosing to go with a true white and a darker purple was a personal preference. The overcoat is made from the same pattern as the rest of the dress, just with a very different cut along the bottom. While it will be a separate piece, I will likely be applying either snaps or velcro along the inside edge to keep it in place against the dress.
